The non-chocolate half of the counter. Chewy Lebanese nougat studded with pistachio, cashew and walnut; caramelised nut and seed brittle; malban fruit jelly rolled around whole nuts; and dried apricot, date and fig either plain or dipped.

These are the sweets that turn up on a Levantine table beside the coffee. Sold by the quarter pound, half pound or pound, and individually wrapped in cellophane.
